Church History
West Park Heights was built in 1953 and the first pastor was Bro. Lewis Denson . The first deacons to be ordained by the church were Gorden Corner and John McClellan. There were twelve baptisms and thirteen additions by letter. The construction of the new sancturay was begun in 1964 and finished in 1965. Bro. Charles Alexander was the pastor at this time and remained as pastor for a period of ten years. During the time Bro. Alexander was our pastor there were 77 baptisms and 92 additions by letter. In 1978 Bro. Billy Dempsey became our first full-time minister. During this time our old sancturay became our activities building, and we purchased our church bus. In 1985 Bro. Randy Hagan began his ministry with us as our tenth pastor. In October the sancturay was remodeled. Bro. Randy stayed with the church until March of 1993. During the next decade we took a new approach to Discipleship Training. Bro. Hughes was our pastor during this period and he and his wife Laura left us in 1996 to be appointed and serve as missionaries with the Foreign Missioin Board. Paul and Kathy Broom were also commissioned to serve as missionaries in Venezuela. Lee Bradley was commissioned to serve as a missionary in Albania. It was very unusual for a church to have 3 families actively serving on the mission field at the same time. Bro. Harvey (Bud) Putnam became our thirteenth pastor in September, 1999. The children's department was renovated making new classrooms and making it more child friendly.
Bro. Bryan Camp became our fourteenth and present pastor in 2004, with his wife Cantina, their three children Isaac, Sarah and Elijah. We look forward to serving with him and his family for many years to come.
