Where Loving Others Is Real

Dear Servants of Christ,

How does it make you feel to be called a servant? Servants have dirty jobs. Servants have no say in what they do. They just serve the master. Whatever He says goes. Whatever He wants, He gets. Servants have a one word mind set – serve.Another often derogatory word for servant is slave. We live in a culture that looks down on the servant mind set. "How dare you expect me to do that! Who do you think you are, my master or something? You’re not getting that from me, no way.  We are to be served! We are too good to serve! Get someone else. Leave me alone",is what our culture says to the call of servanthood.

I want to forewarn you that on July 8 in our evening service we will be Celebrating Servanthood. God has blessed West Park Heights with many great servants and we need to celebrate what they do for Jesus Christ and our church family. All the Church family is invited. A meal will be provided at no cost and no work on your part. We especially want all the church family that has served on any committee, in Sunday school, in the Youth, Children, Preschool, & Nursery departments, and Deacons. It will be a night and a time that we will be encouraged in our call of servanthood. Please make plans to come.

On this night we will award special people from the Children, Youth, and Adult departments. Each department will select a “Servant of the Year” to be revealed and awarded on that night. I believe this will be a great way of fulfilling 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 which proclaims, "And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves." I can’t wait to recognize each of our servants at West Park Heights on the evening of July 8th, 2007.

Until then, serve by praying for me as I prepare messages from 1 Timothy and we settle in with thnew baby Elijah James Camp who arrived May 31, 2007.

Paul, James, Peter and Jude all accepted the call of servanthood even to the point of calling themselves slaves (Rom 1:1, Titus 1:1, James 1:1, 2 Peter 1:1, & Jude 1). Paul even said that Jesus, when He came in the flesh to earth from Heaven, took on the form of a bond-servant or slave (Phil 2:6). Paul exhorted the Church at Philippi to, "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus" (Phil 2:5). He continued to exhort them to, "Do all things without complaining and disputing"(Phil 2:14). My question for you is do you have a mind set that diligently and willfully serves Jesus Christ without complaining and disputing?
